Exelon recently implemented 'eSOMS' (Electronic Shift Operations Management Software) across it's nuclear fleet.  This software includes electronic logs, rounds, clearance and tagging, configuration control, scheduling, and various other functions.   With the exception of the scheduling module, eSOMS is primarily maintained at the sites by Operations, so we can control the content and functionality.  (See http://www.ventyx.com/esoms/overview.asp and/or http://www.techassist.com/products/overview.html for info.)

I am the Site Administrator for eSOMS at Quad Cities (and an on-shift SRO).  I am posting this primarily to fish for contacts at other utilities.  If you use eSOMS at your site, I would appreciate info on who manages the software there.  Any other discussion on eSOMS, what modules you use, problems you have, etc., is welcome.

Thanks, INPO!
Here's a tribute to the usefulness of this website.  I have recently been contacted by an SRO in Slovenija who is working on implementing eSOMS at his nuclear plant.  Although he is not a PROS member, someone at INPO found my eSOMS post here and pointed him in my direction.  Thanks PROS and INPO!

Mike,

Laura Myers, an instant SRO waiting for class, is spearheading the effort here at Hope Creek.  We went live on 12/30/09, so we are feeling a lot of growing pains.  I can tell you that it is better than the previous product we were using, PI manual logger.

Her contact information is Laura.Myers@pseg.com.

We transitioned to eSOMS from

We transitioned to eSOMS from tacts several years ago.  We use it for tagging and operator rounds.  We are working to add fire watch rounds to the list.  While I am not the most experienced user, our fleet has a great amount of experience with its use.

We use eSOMS for clearance and tagging only.  We use AutoLog and AutoTour for electronic logs and electronic operator rounds.

ESOMS

FPL has been using ESOMS/NOMS for about 8 years now. It works well except for flaws with tag sharing on clearances. If a component is on 2 ECOs within a shell and the item on the first ECO is not signed for before the second ECO is attempting to sign for completion of same component position, ESOMS will not allow the person to sign for the position on the second ECO. The tag hang list will list this as needing to be hung on Both ECOs. He/She must find the first ESOMS ECO that was authorized first. Normal online ECOs it doesn't happen often. During SNOs or scheduled outages, it becomes a problem. It becomes more of a problem if the First ECO couldn't be completed because of an equipment problem (broken valve handle) and changes to the first ECO is required to provide a safe Clearance. Logs function seems to work well, but trending parameter changes takes more hand-on experience than using a Yokagawa recorder history review.

FPL is incorporating a new system in 2010 or 2011 that will allow Condition reporting and work control functions to interact with ESOMS called NAMS.

Hope this helps. The PSL contact SRO would be Dave Lanyi. PSL is currently in a duel unit outage only one of which was planned.
