Dilution of Control Room Experience

86% of the operators that will be coming into the control rooms will have little or no experience.  One of the NRC speakers at the 2011 PROS Meeting this year asked what was so wrong with our culture that the plant equipment operators do not want to be reactor operators, the reactor operators do not want to be senior reactor operators and the senior reactor operators do not want to be shift managers. What makes the jobs so unrewarding? We need as an industry to fix this. Just as some technical issues that contributed to the Japan disasters, the soft issues, the cultural issues can be just as consequential. Along with all the issues that will be addressed in the wake of Japan 9.0, should this be one of them. I am asking your input why this is occurring.

Exelon Takeover

Curious if anybody was at a plant that was then acquired by Exelon.  Any pros, cons, or growing pains would be helpful.  Seems that Exelon is on the hunt to buy up nukes, be nice to know what is on the horizon.

RO and SRO who has thier license the longest in the country

Can anyone tell me how to determine the longest time an active RO and SRO license has been held in the industry. We have an RO at ONS who will retire next year and would to know if he has the record. He has had active license for over 25 years and is 61 years old.

Is there a database or someone who can tell me how to find out.

SRO Upgrade Compensation While in License Class

Does your utility struggle with enticing ROs to upgrade to SRO?  How does your utility encourage ROs to upgrade?  Does your utility offer signing bonuses, milestone bonues, etc.  to upgrade candidates?  How is the compensation package structured for upgrade candidates  during the training phase at your utility?

My License Class - Perry 89-01

The Perry NRC License Class 89-01 recently had a 20 year anniversary dinner. They received their licenses in September of 1990. The class was unique in that the entire class was operators.

9 of 11 in the class are still employed at Perry. Sadly Mark Fahl passed away a few years ago and Mike Damman left us for his home in New Jersey.

Paul Goda - Staff RO / Supervisor of the Fire Technicians

Jim Kelly - PROS Region III President and Operator Training

Jeff Defisher - Supv. Nuclear Technical Training

Jim Cross - Staff RO / Operations Procedures / Operations OE Coordinator

Mike McCullough - Shift RO

Jim Case - Shift Manager / FIN Team Leader

Rick Strohl - Operations Training Superintendent

Bob Kidder - Operations Shift Manager

Scott Davis - Plant Engineering.

Who is the second best License Class on record??

WOG Rev 1A

Is there anyone out there who might have a copy of the WOG ERG Revision 1A background documents?  These documents contained flow charts for each procedure that I would find useful to update and use.

Let me know at tom_stanley_51@yahoo.com or x2twstan@southernco.com

Thanks

Tom Stanley

Windmill Load Following

How many nuclear units have load followed due to windmills? One has in the midwest.

Preconditioning Out-of-the-Box (Simulator OBE) Examinations for Requalification

Recently a PWR near central IL was discovered to have been conducting training sessions before the OBE examinations. This conditioning practice had been going on for 12 years.

Does anyone else do this?

CaPtChA difficulties

Apparently captcha is case-sensitive. I am averaging 1/3 successful attempts to get through, since the upper and lower case of random-sized script look incredibly similar. I know I am the only one having problems, but maybe it could be dumbed down....

(and maybe this should be posted in the members only section...)

HU and THU

Does anyone have any good lesson plans for operators on HU and THU?
