Benchmarking
I am looking for information for two items in Operations Training
1. Do use specific times for field action during simulator time? If an operator call the simulator booth and ask for some local action to be performed, do you have specific times?
Background: During a audit we were challanged on using specific times. Since then, I have found out the the NRC has challanged at at least one plant and required that they time the local action of a specific design basis event.
2. What does everyone do for remediation. For a failed simulator set, for a failed written?

At Wolf Creek, we have a formal remediation process but it varies with the type of failure and the extent of the failure. For example, if an operator made 'test-taking mistakes', such as failed to note that question is a "Not" question, then the remediate plan is pretty quick and easy, but if there are knowledge gaps then we have one-on-one tutoring for the troubelsome subject. All remediate plans get reviewed by the Line rep, which is me. Retesting usually takes place onthe weekend after Training, prior to returning to shift.
For local actions, we have representative times that we use for the building Operators' response and are validated bsed on feedback from the Crews.

At Limerick, we definitely have time delays when field actions are ordered. Specifically, T-200 procedures directed from trips are time validated because they obviously can impact the scenario the most.
Occasionally, we will spot check the validation and have an EO perform certain procedures and time them. The EO usually feels like they are in JPM mode and take longer than they should. With the experience level of EO's getting watered down, these times will go up.
For a failed simulator evaluation, it is usually remediated Friday afternoon. For written exams, the person who failed comes back to training the next week, self studies and gets some one on one and then takes the exam on Friday with the crew in training. Annual exam failures will take longer.
